Catching back as time flies, Continue to Day dream or Chase the dream....

Dear Readers,

It has been quite a while since the last post. To be honest, this blog originally come from a mind of a foodie that wants to share the local food and delights across the country with everyone. Everyone wish to share out what they have experienced when they try out something at somewhere "NEW" but lazy to jot down the posts/comments of it.

People only remembers when they are upset at certain shops and stalls they have visited and leave the remarks/reviews at google/fb/ soc-med of that particular shop/stall.

Let's keep it short, the comeback of this post is to decide if I should set-up a local F&B stall/ shop as the desire of becoming an own boss is still there in mind but with many unforeseen scenarios that holds back on this leaving it in KIV till further.

What should I do about it. Setting up a biz is not as easy as it seems. Many things to be done and consider about such as Location, registration of business license, permit to work, advanced rental & utility deposit, hiring trustable manpower/work force, marketing and promotions, pos system, menu of food & drinks, budget and etc.

Hope someone can enlighten me or advice me on how to proceed with it in a summarize form and steps. Where to start.

FoodHunt: Pan Heong Restaurant @ Medan Batu Caves

This restaurant which is located in the Medan Batu Caves area right opposite a Chinese Primary school is a hidden gem for its Wat Tan Hor / Sang Har Mee. I have pay a visit again after a long time but the crowd got bigger than the previous time I went there. It's harder for me to find a parking now and I have to wait longer to get a table.

But no problem as long as my crave is satisfy.

Wat Tan Hor (1 Pax Portion)

This wat tan hor is absolutely great as its cook very well and I can even taste the wok hei in it. For those that find the Sang Har Mee abit pricey, this is another alternative you can choose to eat ya.

Fish Slice Porridge (Small)

Nam Yu Fried Pork

Nam Yu Fried Pork. This dish is Fried till crispy whereby the pork has been mixed with the nam yu which makes it extremely flavourful and addictive. However, ours was delicious with a right amount of fattiness.

VERDICT/ RATINGS:-
Service: 4/5 (Try to be patient as they have some temper if you're slow, Just call them when you're ready to order or have a look at the menu to decide what to eat)
Cleanliness: 4/5
Price: 4/5 (Not too cheap though, but the foods served are great)
Ambient: 3/5 (Just another ordinary Chinese Restaurant)
Ps: Do take note that you might need to wait awhile even if you go there during the weekday, my meaning is the Queue, Weekend's crowd is more compared to weekday so take note.

FoodHunt: Fish & Co @ One Utama New Wing LG Floor

Story of the Catch

We are a casual, full service, family chain restaurant serving fresh seafood in a pan. Our unique dining experience drew inspiration from the simple practices of the fishermen in the Mediterranean Sea. There, fishermen cooked freshly caught seafood on board their boats and ate the seafood off the pan to ease their hunger pangs out in the sea.

Just another day whereby I have pass by this restaurant for numerous time but it just give me crave to try out something inside. Therefore this interest me from the menu I have seen.

Let's get thing started, Started off with the Soup of the Day
Soup of the Day - RM7.50

Ask our friendly fisherians!!

Main course as it is:
Grilled Peri-Peri Prawns - RM36.95

Prawns orchestra butterflied and slightly charred with Peri-Peri finishing.

The Best Fish & Chips in Town! - RM20.70

The best Fish & Chips in town. Need we say more? It's a must to try since the name of the dish is already name by " The best Fish & Chips " in town.

Ending it withe some sweet in the mouth
Hot Fudge Cake - RM11.25

Warm chocolate cake graciously topped with our homemade chocolate sauce. Definitely a dessert for all ages! Do take note, this is not ready made, therefore, they will be informing that it will take 15-20mins for preparation.

VERDICT/ RATINGS:-
Service: 4/5 (Friendly Staffs)
Cleanliness: 4/5
Price: 4/5 (To me, The price is still average with the service provided)
Ambient: 3/5

Chilling Weekend

Ending a day of the weekend with a pot of flower tea suites the cold weather after the heavy downpour in the Klang Valley.

Life is not necessary to be hectic, we must learn to cool ourselves down and relax during the weekend so we can recharge and fight again during the weekdays. Many may not have the weekend to spend rather than resting themselves as service industry has no fixed/proper off days.

FoodHunt: Kukus Stim Habis @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail, KL

Set Alakazam (RM 15.90): Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken comes with Sambal Tebaboh. This set comes with a complimentary drink which I choose Kopi'O Peng (Ice) for it.

The set lets you choose either Kopi O (Hot/Cold), Teh O (Hot/Cold), or Soya Bean.

I have also ordered a Sandwich which is called Otak- Otak Sandwich (RM 14.90)

REVIEW:
The presentation and the decoration of the restaurant comes with a touch of modern and olden days design whereby it reminds us when parents wake us up in the weekends and ask to go for breakfast in the restaurant. This really reminds me of those days, how I wish the time can be rewind again.

Come back to KUKUS, It is a self service restaurant whereby you have to make an order and pay via cash only at the cashier counter at the front once you have enter the restaurant. She will then pass you the receipt of the order you have made. Then there's two places for food and drinks collection, it somehow don't have a numbering system whereby the worker will put your food at the tray for you to collect but this comes into my mind, what if the person in front and behind of you ordered the same thing and there's only one, will the customer know that it is theirs or belongs to who?

After the collection of food and drinks at different locations, I then returned to my seat and start my feast, The Fried chicken was not too bad, I guess the alakazam came from the fried chicken though, I'm not too sure on it. The nasi lemak comes with a hard boiled egg which cuts into 2, cucumbers, peanuts, Ikan Bilis, Sambal Terbaboh and of course the main dish Fried Chicken. This Set Alakazam also comes with a complimentary drink which I choose Kopi O' Peng (Ice) Out of the selections of drinks. Unfortunately, the Kopi O' Peng taste terribly sweet, it's like I'm drinking Air Manis with Ais and I totally can't taste the Kopi O at all, Sorry to say that, the drinks is a No GO for me.

Then I have also ordered Otak-Otak Sandwich which is RM1 Cheaper than my Alakazam set whereby there's a Slice of bread with Otak Otak as its filling then cuts into half, The taste for the otak otak is not too bad and I like the concept of the Bread with Otak Otak Filing. The turn down part is the price is not affordable neither with the portion provided. RM 14.90 for it, I guess this the first and last for me to try this out.

Besides that, the cashier may be a new worker but in F&B or any service line, you have to put up a smile and be nice to customers, don't just ignore and when the customer stand at the cashier counter there waiting to order, and you just do your thing where others stuff are doing it also. It's a newly open restaurant, if there's no good impression at the start, would you think others will even come in to have their first try?

VERDICT/ RATINGS:-
Service: 2/5
Cleanliness: 4/5
Price: 2/5 (To me, It's Overprice & Not affordable)
Ambient: 4/5

Bringing Cooking Hobbies into Business?

DILEMMA/ CONFUSED

I guess many have thought of bringing your own ideas based on the experience and interest in making a food and beverage industry work and sustain as a business as a whole.

Many things have to be consider before doing so as planning is always the very important thing as it's the stepping stone as many may say. You may open a cafe/ Restaurant/ Food outlet selling things you wished or trending for that moment but have you think of the sustainability of it. From my point of view, it is always better to have a plan ahead before we rushed and open something which will cause you to be owing more debts from the legal loansharks??

I am not discouraging the people who wish to bring their interest or dream into the business but it's better be prepared before any unforeseen circumstances to be happened.
